As much as this is a practice that should be stopped, it would not be benificial for the government to do anything. Think about it, do the Witnesses really need a reason to feel they are being persecuted by the governments? All it would do is provide more false convition amongst believers. Whatis going on between the Society, its believers and ex members has been played out before elsewhere in history but with differant names. Mans struggle against the power of religious leaders and their dogmatic approach to spiritual issues has created frustration, pain, and sadfully caasualities.

THE GOVERMENT AND SHUNNING.....
by Mary inafter reading the tragedy of puternut, i was thinking that perhaps it's time that the government took another look at what can happen when they allow religions like the jws, to cut off family members without a second thought.
surely someone's rights to have normal religions with their family should come before freedom of religion.
isn't it ironic that the gb fought so hard in court to obtain freedom of religion, yet their own members commit suicide when they try to express this very right.

Did You Help Anyone To Get Baptized?
by minimus ini did.

and i regret that they're (many) still active witnesses.

I studied with somebody who eventually got baptized but it was going to happen regardless if I was there or anybody else was. Half way through the study the brothers thought it would be better for somebody else to study with the guy, so I didn't even finish it all the way.

Welcome to the board! I'm in somewhat of the same situation you found yourself in years ago. I too have "drifted" but continue to go to meetings only giving my "6 inches". So far, I have been left alone and will continue on this pace as long as it takes untill I can fade. Thanks for the expierance, I hope to hear more of your stories!

Do you still read the bible?
by JH in.
i don't read it anymore.. i figure that i know enough of it, without having to go back and read it again.

I continue to read the Bible, this time with a more open and non biased view. Like anything, we need to take caution on emotionally attaching ourselves to anything without using our power of choice and reason. I'm at the point where I am continuing my studies in the Bible, but have not sealed off my opinons on many of the major issues concerning it.

From what I understand he is working on a possible new edition of In Search of Christian Freedom. He is keeping up with the work the best he can. He feels such an obligation to help those with questions about the Watchtower. I think we are all very indebted to him.

I allways found it strange to find out about these people. When I first became associated I thought to myself "how could they not come to the hall, don't they realize what they are blah blah blah blah blah"
Damn, they scared us pretty good huh? I sure was at the time.
